Oh my God! A LaFerrari V-12 engine for just $800,000? Let me buy it off this eBay auction right away! Said no one ever. The dude who posted this ad thought he could actually make some quick buck – actually a lot of bucks – from a vague description with poor grammar? This is what the posting read: “2017 FERRARI LA FERRARI ENGINE with 20 miles ... very important.. Ferrari will not build no more Laferrari engine for stock ... so get it while you can." Really?

I Want To See If Anyone Actually Buys It

This ad was posted on eBay a while back, but, has been removed at the time of writing this article. The poster – or shall I say, the imposter? – uploaded just three images of the engine from a low-res camera, something you can expect from the long-gone Motorola flip phone. This dude has not answered any questions about the engine other than trying to lure people by hyping the engine and selling it as a limited-edition of sorts. Does he even expect it to be sold, especially after seeing the mighty price tag?

However, the ad seemed legit back then seeing the other products in his listings. The mill was, perhaps, taken from a crashed LaFerrari, after all, supercars crashing is not an uncommon sight. It had run just 200 miles in 2017 and the price tag was a lot more justifiable than the new posting. The account that posted the ad has sold exotic cars in the past also, but a rating of just 69 percent is not very satisfactory when you are planning to plonk such a huge amount of cash on an engine. If it’s of any consolation, this rating is better than what Rotten Tomatoes gave the Hobbs & Shaw flick.

The LaFerrari Is A Class Apart

Coming to the LaFerrari, it made its public debut at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show. Ferrari built 499 units of the LaFerrari coupé from 2013 to 2016. Later that year, the Italian automaker built 200 units of the LaFerrari Aperta; a topless version of the LaFerrari coupe. The LaFerrari cannot be misunderstood for anything but a Ferrari. On the inside, it exudes class and luxury. There are also a lot of carbon-fiber elements that justify the high price to an extent.

The seats are wrapped in Alcantara. The combines power output produced is 963 ponies and 663 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The LaFerrari also boasts an impressive drag coefficient of 0.3. This helps the hypercar stay grounded and stable at high speeds. Plus, it was priced at around $1.35 million and, in fact, the company auctioned a LaFerrari in Satin Black during the 2016 Monterey Car Week for $4.7 million.

Final Thoughts

Should Ferrari look into it and give details? At the end of the day, it does affect Ferrari’s reputation also to some extent. Would you do an engine swap with this if you owned a Ferrari? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
