Is This Second Leaked Image of the 2020 Chevy C8 Corvette Legit or Is Someone Playing With Our Emotions?

The Corvette C8's front fascia looks rather generic

We've just seen a leaked photo of the Corvette C8's rear end a couple of days ago and now a new leak is reportedly showing us the car's front fascia. With the C8's official unveiling only a week away, there might not be much mystery about the exterior design of the first mid-engined 'Vette.

What the deal with this new photo leak?

The image was published by YouTube vlogger "Street Sped 717," who claims exclusive rights of the leak. He doesn't say where the photo comes from, but as an owner of a Corvette C7 ZR1 and a future buyer of the C8, he seems very much into the topic. So is the pic legit? I can't say for sure, but the leak shows a car in the same blue color as in the previous leak with the rear end.

What does it tell us about the upcoming C8

If real, this leak shows off a very generic front fascia. It features a slightly pointy nose and a three-piece vent layout in the bumper. There's a wider intake in the center, flanked by smaller outlets to the sides. Like seen on most modern sports cars. Ignore the headlamps, and it looks a lot like the Acura NSX and Lamborghini Huracan, and it even has some McLaren hints in there.

The headlamps are of the swept-back variety, also a generic design among the sports cars and supercars that are on the market right now. They also seem to have a boomerang shape with longer corners toward the A-pillars and toward the nose. The photo is really blurry, and it may hide some important character lines on the nose and the front hood, but as it stands, the Corvette C8 will look generic and somewhat dull.

The leaked photo also gives us a glimpse at the profile. We can see a big vent in the rear fender, just behind the door, a design feature specific to mid-engined vehicles. The side skirts also become wider as they progress toward the rear fenders. Other than that, the design seems fairly simple overall.

I can't say I'm disappointed, but I was expecting a bit more from Chevrolet with this sports car.

What we already know about the Corvette C8

Well, we've already seen the rear fascia in a leak that seems more legit than this one. We know it retains the quad-taillight configuration, but the lights are different now. They're still similar to the Corvette C7 and even the latest Camaro, but they have a more angular design that points toward the outer edges of the fascia.

There's also a big license plate recess in the middle and additional vents between the taillights and the bumper. The bumper itself features a fairly big diffuser in the center and two exhaust pipes on each side. The small wing on the deck lid suggests that the new Corvette will be more aerodynamic than its predecessor.

What do we know about its performance?

Official details are scarce, but word has it GM is readying three drivetrains for the C8. The base model could feature a 6.2-liter V-8 similar to the one in the outgoing C7 variant, but with power ratings around the 500-horsepower mark. A mid-range model with a twin-turbo, 4.2-liter V-8 borrowed from Cadillac could cranks out around 650 horsepower, if not more. Finally, Chevy could roll out a range-topping model with at least 800 horsepower coming from a brand-new, 5.5-liter V-8.

Rumors claim that Chevrolet is also aiming to introduce a hybrid version of the Corvette V-8. This one will be the most extreme of them all, as the 5.5-liter V-8 and the electric motor(s) would generate around 1,000 horsepower.

Another somewhat far-fetched rumors suggest that the Corvette C8 could ditch V-8 power in favor of twin-turbo V-6 engines. We will find out more about that on July 18.
