The New 2020 Volkswagen Golf Filmed In South Africa

With the impending introduction to the all-new 2020 Volkswagen Golf Mk8, we are in for numerous teasers, spy photos and, evidently, spy videos of the thing. Volkswagen already confirmed that it will start with the production of the all-new Golf Mk8 in June next year, and this means that we will see it long before then. Only days ago, a Facebook user “Tuned Automotive Magazine” published a video with a title - “Is This The Golf Mk8?” In there, one can see a wonderful dark red Golf with massive GTI wheels on the highway. While no one is certain of the authenticity of the video, one thing is certain - the video stirred some blood in the car community.

The 2020 Volkswagen Golf Mk8 will be unveiled for Europe next year. Heck, people there will be able to buy it in the second half of 2019. If I am to deduce about its U.S. debut, I’d have to say that the Golf will reach our shores and showrooms a year later - just as it was with the previous generation.

Is This The Golf Mk8?

Is this the Golf Mk8?

While production of the upcoming Volkswagen Golf Mk8 is only set to kick off around the middle of 2019, it seems that 'something' looking suspiciously like the teaser sketch dropped a few days ago by Volkswagen Group South Africa, has been spotted out in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Could this be the Golf Mk8?

Is This The Golf Mk8?

Earlier today, a video featuring what is pupported to be the upcoming Volkswagen Golf Mk8 made its way online. After we posted it, we had many commenting that the video was 'edited' and a 'fake'. However, a second video, shot in the Eastern Cape, featuring the same 'Red Golf' has emerged. Could this be an actual test mule of the Golf Mk8?

I already told you a great deal about the Golf Mk8 after Volkswagen published a sketch about it. Now, watching this video, you can probably picture a vehicle that looks even plusher, crisper and sharper than ever before.

However, I am still a bit uncertain that this is actually Golf Mk8 footage. It may be clever CGI, a nicely touched up Mk7, or just some other marketing ploy. Despite the true origin of the footage, one thing is for certain - this will be the single biggest technological leap for the Volkswagen Golf in its 44-year history. That’s funny because we already know it will ride on the same MQB platform as before.

Apart from the cool tech inside the cabin, the Golf may dispense with the usual all-wheel-drive system around the Haldex.

Instead, the R may even employ an electric motor on the rear axle instead of sending the power from the front wheels to the back. That would be neat, and in conjunction with the rest of the world (the new Prius Hybrid, certain Lexus and Acura cars, as well as Peugeot cars), Volkswagen would debut the tech in the high-performance segment. Kinda neat.

If this truly is our first glimpse at the new 2020 Golf Mk8, I can safely assume that we are looking at the GTI version.

It has GTI wheels, trademark dark red paint, and expresses a certain acerbic allure no other Golf can.

So far this year we have seen the new Golf Mk8 (camouflaged as the Mk7) taking rather fast spins at the Nurburgring. Then, I did learn it will take all the novel tech from the latest Volkswagen cars and integrate it within the Golf compact form. Maybe even that massive central screen that measures 15 inches in the latest Volkswagen Touareg.
