British-based performance automaker BAC (Briggs Automotive Company) and the Isle of Man Government have joined forces to create the world’s first BAC Mono police car. While the single-seater, formula-style supercar probably won’t be used to detain suspects (strap them to the hood?!), it will “become an active member of the fleet and will also be on show at a number of local festivals to encourage safe and responsible driving.”

BAC has worked with the Isle of Man before, as the automaker previously used the local roads for car development, as well as to host various client driving events. The law enforcement iteration gets a special police livery. Tasked with driving the Mono is PC Andy Greaves, a police motorcyclist and collision investigator with advanced driving skill. “We are here to promote safe use of the road, and it’s amazing how many people want to talk to you when this is your transport,” Greaves said.

The Mono Cop Car

What’s The Isle Of Man?

Located in the Irish Sea between the English mainland and Ireland, the small island is best known for its annual TT race, a high-speed motorcycle competition that pits some of the fastest best two-wheelers on the planet against the winding public streets. Speeds can eclipse the 200-mph mark. On public roads. Craziness. The four-wheeled variety of performance machines also occasionally get in on the action, with notable examples including Mark Higgins’ recent record-breaking run in a 600-horsepower Subaru WRX STI.

And What About The BAC Mono?

Just one look at this thing, and it’s obvious its got some serious performance chops. The Mono is stripped down to the bare basics, only equipped with what you need for going fast. Providing the juice is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine tuned by Mountune, producing as much as 305 horsepower. While that might not seem like a lot, the Mono only weighs 580 kg, or 1,278 pounds, which means 300 horses is enough to render a 0-to-60 mph time of 2.8 seconds.
