The McLaren 720S has claimed a lot of victims on drag strips all over the world through a combo of lightness, punchy performance, and bonkers off-the-line acceleration. So, how will it fare against Ferrari’s F8 Tributo, a car that has all the chances of becoming its nemesis? This video from Drag Times offers the answer.

For some reason, the 720S experiences more wheel spin than the F8

Before we get to the gist of it, here’s a quick rundown of the two cars, specs-wise. The F8 Tributo has a 3.9-liter V-8 tuned to produce 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. The 720S has a slightly larger engine, but it’s also a V-8. The 4.0-liter mill cranks out 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque and that’s not a typo; the F8 and the 720S crank out the exact same power and torque outputs.

The drag race is a three-round affair. In the first run, both cars spin their rear wheels off the line, but this effect has a greater influence on the McLaren. The F8 generates less wheel slip, while the 720S’ rear rubber struggles a lot to bite into the runway at first, allowing the Ferrari to win this one with a ¼ mile time of 10.445 seconds. The Macca finished the race in 10.469 seconds.

In the second round, the McLaren ups its game but the F8 does the same and manages to come up on top once again. That said, we’re not going to spoil the fun of watching the video yourself, so this is where we stop the typing to let the clip do the talking.

There’s still one more round to go, so maybe the 720S can at least come out of the duel honorably. Maybe.
