Rumors about Chevy planning to build a mid-engined Corvette have been flying around for quite a few years now, but GM's supercar is no longer just a wet dream. Several prototypes have been spotted on public roads recently, and we've read a ton of reports about its design and drivetrain. Things have been rather quiet recently until Cadillac's new V-8 engine in the CT6 V-Sport gave rise to speculation that the mid-engined Corvette might get it. Now that GM rejected that scenario, we got word that Chevy just showcased the supercar to its dealers in Las Vegas.

The news comes from Nate Chandler of New York's Van Bortel Chevrolet, who attended a dealer meeting where the company presented a teaser of the vehicle. "Caught a glimpse of the next-gen Corvette at Chevy’s Find New Roads dealer conference. It is coming; it looks very mid-engined! The teaser was part of the General Session where phones and recording devices were not permitted. I can’t wait to find out more!"

Apparently, no one managed to take a photo at the conference, but Nate told the guys over at the Corvette Forum that the "two pictures showed very little," but the "front bumper cover reminded me of the 2019 ZR1," and the "front hood reminded me of a Lotus." This isn't very revealing, but we do have a plethora of spy shots and a rendering in our speculative review, so make sure you take a look for an idea about its design cues.

Rumored to be called the Corvette Zora, the mid-engined Chevy will probably arrive in 2019, alongside the C8-generation Corvette, which will remain front-engined. The Zora will sport an aggressive exterior and will most likely get a brand-new V-8 engine with at least 700 horsepower. A hybrid version is also rumored, and it's a solid possibility given the current market trends.

Stay tuned for updates; we'll bring them to you as soon as we have them!
