The writing is officially on the wall.

Despite an overwhelmingly glowing response when it was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show last year, the Cadillac Converj and all its production plans have been laid to rest.

While a lot of us are pretty disappointed to hear that the Converj never even made it past the concept line, General Motors->ke1024 doesn’t seem to be all that affected with Cadillac->ke18 spokesman Nick Twork even saying that the Converj was nothing more than just a concept. “It was never announced officially that we were going to do the Converj. We never issued a press release," he said.

Continued after the jump.

While he’s spot on regarding the fact that Cadillac never did issue a press release about the production time line of the Converj, out-going GM Vice Chairman, Bob Lutz, did say during a meeting with the Society of Automotive Analysts that the hybrid concept would be produced sometime after 2012.

Either way, we now have a definitive answer. And now that they won’t have to answer questions about the Converj – at least anytime soon - GM is pushing its other priorities, namely the long-awaited release of the Chevy Volt, past the production line.

A place where, sadly, the Cadillac Converj will never live to see.
