Another day, another series of drag races on the way. This one comes from DragTimes and pits a Porsche 911 (992) Turbo S versus a Lamborghini Huracan EVO. Two very different formulas for similar levels of performance. It’s just a classic, best out of three drag racing between two fast machines that are completely stock. Here’s what happened.

Lamborghini Huracan EVO

The orange bull is a facelift model, which means 631 horsepower at 8,000 RPM and 443 pound-feet (600 Nm) at 6,500 RPM are drawn from the 5.2-liter, naturally-aspirated V-10. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic sends power to all four wheels. The mid-engine Italian also boasts a curb weight of 3,135 pounds (1,422 kg). As equipped, the Huracan EVO costs $304,000.

Porsche 991 (992) Turbo S

The Porsche Turbo’s 3.7-liter twin-turbo flat-six makes 650 horsepower at 6,750 RPM and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm) at 2,500 to 4,000 RPM. Like the Lamborghini, power is sent to all four wheels, but through an eight-speed PDK automatic. At 3,615 pounds (1,640 kg), the Porsche is the heavier car of the two. It’s also the more affordable of the two, with an MSRP of $245,000.

The Drag Race

In the first run, the Lamborghini Huracan EVO had a better start, allowing it to take the lead. The Porsche quickly closed the gap, but in the second half of the race, the sleeker Lambo managed to pull ahead. In the end, the Huracan had a better reaction and finished in 10.89 seconds at 129.89 mph (209 km/h) versus the Porsche’s 10.53 seconds at 126.91 mph (204.24 km/h).

In the second run, the Huracan bogs down off the line, allowing the Turbo to take the win. The 911 Turbo S manages a 10.567-second quarter-mile run at 126.71 mph (203.91 km/h) while the Lambo took 11.068 seconds at 128.84 mph (207.35 km/h).

The decisive third race almost looks like a repetition of the first. The Lamborghini driver has a better reaction and takes the lead. However, the Porsche Turbo almost immediately catches up and snatches the win, with a time of 10.26 seconds at 128.03 mph (206.04 km/h) versus the Lamborghini’s 10.877 seconds at 130.32 mph (209.73 km/h).

In reality, both cars were so closely matched that it was a question of reaction times more than anything else. The Lamborghini may have lost the battle, but it consistently had a higher trap speed than the Porsche. On a half-mile drag race, the Italian would have probably won, but today, the Porsche drives home a winner.
