As if the F-Pace, I-Pace, and E-Pace aren’t enough, Jaguar is reportedly looking to add yet another member to its growing family of crossovers and SUVs. If reports are to be believed, the next model on the plate is the C-Pace, the name Jaguar filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office a few days ago. The filings were made under multiple categories within the EUIPO’s system, including Nice Classification 12 for motor vehicles.

When it comes to Jaguar and crossovers and SUVs, no rumor is too far out of reach. The British automaker has been on a roll developing one SUV after another, so much so that, in a span of a few years, it went from not having one in its lineup to having three, specifically the F-Pace, E-Pace, and the all-electric I-Pace.

Now it looks like a fourth member of that family is coming sooner than later. In order to create a layer of differentiation, the so-called C-Pace is reportedly going to take the shape of a coupe-SUV. That would make sense because Jag doesn't have a presence in that niche which happens to be growing at an astounding rate. Gone are the days when choices were limited to just the BMW X6 and the Porsche Panamera. Now, Mercedes-Benz has the GLC and GLE. Even Audi has the Q4 and the Q8 in its ranks. The once niche market is getting rid of that label, and it looks like Jaguar wants in on the fun.

Understandably, details about the Jaguar C-Pace are still scarce at this point, but if it does happen, it’s expected to sit somewhere between the smaller E-Pace and the larger F-Pace. Beyond that, we know precious little about Jaguar’s plans other than the trademark filings it made back on July 9. There’s a good chance that the C-Pace becomes a reality, but there’s also a good chance that it doesn’t. After all, trademark filings can’t be relied upon as clear indications of an automaker’s plans for a specific model. There are times when automakers will register trademarks for the sole purpose of making sure that none of its rivals use the name themselves. That could be the case here.

I don’t think it is, though. I think there are legs to this rumored Jaguar coupe-SUV. The market has shown that it’s sustainable to one, and the automaker that’s planning it has shown remarkable aggressiveness in expanding its own crossover and SUV lineup. The trademark filings of the C-Pace name could be the start of what will end up being a Jaguar coupe SUV in our midst.
