Jaguar celebrated its 80th anniversary this month, and part as part of that celebration, it decided to pull a daring maneuver with its first production family sports car, or SUV, the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace. The F-Pace was piloted by stunt driver Terry Grant around a 63-foot tall loop, setting a new Guinness world record in the process.

What did it take to accomplish this record-setting feat? Reports say that Terry trained for two months to prepare. He endured both physical and dietary training to ensure his body could handle the three-second journey around the loop, which generated a maximum of 6.5 Gs.

Why it matters

Needless to say, this was an amazing accomplishment for Grant and Jaguar. Not something I expected to see Jaguar do with something like the F-pace, but that just goes to show how sporty and agile an SUV can be. It’s certainly a performance that show-goers will remember for years to come. Now that we know it can be done, Jaguar, we expect to see you conquer a double loop for your 100th anniversary.

Pro Driver Terry Grant undertook two months of intense physical and dietary training to ensure his body was prepared for the 6.5 G-Force, which is greater than the forces experienced by space shuttle pilots.

Months of planning went in to ensuring that both car and driver could complete this never before done challenge. Precise physics, angles, speeds and dimensions were considered by a team of experts including structural engineers, mathematicians and safety experts.

Terry Grant, Legendary Stunt Driver, said, "Driving the world’s largest loop tonight was a very proud moment in my career. The F-PACE’s supreme performance credentials and rigid lightweight structure gave me complete confidence that I had the strength and driving agility needed. I am delighted to bring the Guinness World Record back to the UK and help Jaguar run rings around their competitors ahead of the motor show tomorrow."
