Jaguar's->ke39 still-new sports car,->ke506 the F-Type,->ke1224 is being recalled in the United States over potential incorrect wiring that could prevent the front passenger airbag from deploying in the event of a crash, Automotive News reports. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Jaguar->ke39 Land Rover->ke46 is recalling 7,079 F-Types from both the 2014 and 2015 model years to replace seat belt harness connectors that may not have been wired correctly.

In the affected cars, the sensors that read whether the front passenger airbag should be activated may not function properly and fail to sense persons of smaller stature. Thus the airbag may not activate in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Jaguar has received three reports related to the malfunction so far, but no accidents or injuries have been reported.

The recall is expected to begin on or before January 5th, 2015, with Jaguar Land Rover dealers to replace the harness connector at no cost.

Why it matters

This recall comes to prove that no vehicle is safe from recalls, no matter the badge on its nose. Both sports cars and supercars can roll off the assembly line with various assembly errors, and it seems the F-Type is no exception. What's more, the issue is quite significant for a vehicle that's built with quick 0-to-60 sprints and performance in mind. On the other hand, it should be an easy fix. At least Jaguar doesn't need to replace supercharger units like Chevrolet->ke199 had to do in the case of the Camaro ZL1 earlier in 2014.

Jaguar F-Type

Designed by Ian Callum and launched for the 2013 model year, the F-Type is a two-door sports car that comes in both coupe and roadster body configurations. In its roadster guise, two engine choices are currently available in the United States, starting with an entry-level, supercharged, 3.0-liter V-6 unit that delivers 340 horsepower. The V6 S model benefits from the same unit, but it has 380 horsepower at its disposal, while the range-topping V8 S has a 495-horsepower, supercharged V-8. The coupe version has the same base and V6 S trims, but the range ends with the F-Type R Coupe with a supercharged, 5.0-liter V-8 that produces 550 ponies. The R badge rolls to the convertible side in 2016, when it replaces the V8 S model.

Recently, the F-Type Project 7 was added to the mix, featuring the supercharged V-8 with its output pushed to 575 horses. For 2016, Jaguar added a manual transmission and all-wheel-drive to select models. The 2015 F-Type Coupe retails form $65,000, while the Convertible version is priced from $69,000.
