Jeep has been synonymous with rugged, off-road brutes since the beginning. The company started adopting new technologies and feature-rich cabins, but no one looking for a tech-heavy SUV would have a Jeep on the top of their list. But, it seems like the company is hell-bent on getting out of this mold and let customers know that Jeep can build luxurious, tech-savvy vehicles too; case in point is the recently unveiled Jeep Grand Wagoneer Concept.

The company released this luxurious SUV and it is loaded to the gills in terms of cabin features and creature comforts. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer didn’t just slap a big touchscreen on the center console to prove its point, but went ahead and equipped six more all around the cabin. However, keep in mind that this is a concept and not all the screens may be carried over.

What Do The Screens Do?

You would’ve expected Jeep to equip a large screen on the center console to show it is in line in terms of technology with its competitors. I was expecting an OLED display like the 38-inch one on the Cadillac Escalade that combines the digital instrument cluster and the center console. But, Jeep decided to take this many steps further and showcased the Grand Wagoneer Concept with seven screens in the cabin. This is where all of them are placed and what they do:

Center Console

The main screen on the Jeep Grand Wagoneer Concept is a 12.1-inch infotainment touchscreen system.

This horizontally-oriented screen runs on FCA’s latest UConnect 5 system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This system will support wireless compatibility, a first for FCA. Despite this large screen, Jeep has retained physical knobs and buttons for volume, tuning, and climate control, which is a good thing for sure.

Second Screen On The Center Console

Called the “Comfort Display”, this, in my opinion, is nothing more than a gimmick and unnecessary. It only adds value as a selling point and for people to talk about (Oh wait, we’re writing an article about it. Point – Jeep).

It essentially works like the Touch Pro Duo display seen on Land Rovers, but this is a little more detailed. The good thing here is that it is placed on the bottom half of the center console and can be turned on completely when not in use.

Front Passenger Screen

You can connect by phone via Bluetooth, connect wireless headphones, and even access basic vehicle settings. There’s an option to use maps too, if your passenger decides to be your navigator (pun intended). One thing that’s not confirmed, however, is if it can be mirrored to the main touchscreen on the center console. This will be immensely helpful, especially when using navigation.

Instrument Cluster

Jeep has equipped a 12.3-inch screen for the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel that throws up all the drive-related information. FCA isn’t new to digital clusters and they are rather nifty ones on most of the products across the range. You can expect it to show all sorts of drive and hybrid-related info on here, and even off-road data and camera views if the Grand Wagoneer is going to be heavy on that front.

Between The Rear Captain Chairs

This is a Comfort Display screen for the rear passengers. It is a 10.3-inch screen that sits on the console between the second-row captain chairs. It allows the occupants here to access seat functions like adjustments, ventilation, massage, etc. for the captain chairs. Perhaps, it even controls the HVAC settings since the Jeep Wagoneer has a four-zone climate control system. If you plan to purchase this SUV as a chauffeur-driven vehicle, you will be pleased. Again, just like the Comfort Display at the front, this one too can be switched off completely when not in use.

Two Rear Entertainment Screens

These two screens are placed on the front seatbacks and are most likely going to be identical to the front passenger-side screen. The same functions could be seen here too. Since they are said to offer wireless headphone connectivity, it would be interesting if these screens can be synced with one another so you can enjoy music with the passenger beside you or the front passenger while the speakers take commands from the center console touchscreen system.
