Stellantis showcased future developments for several brands under its corporate belt during its very first EV Day event. A six-minute film was shown by its Jeep brand to demonstrate the automaker’s goals. The company that specializes in off-road vehicles puts a great degree of emphasis on the brand's 4xe goals, part of which includes the installation of Solar charging stations on trails across the country.

Overview

During the event, the Jeep brand also offered the first formal look at its two-row Grand Cherokee 4xe during the presentation. Just to note, the new-gen three-row Jeep Grand Cherokee L is currently already on the market, but it's the first time we've seen the two-row model outside of somescoops.

Styling

As far as design goes, the two-row Grand Cherokee looks similar to the L from this single exterior view, but with minor styling tweaks like a revised front fascia and a distinctive bumper design. The wheels too are unique to this model.

When compared with the three-row Grand Cherokee L, this two-row model has a relatively short back end and less glass along the side. Also, that new backside window glass has a new shape, so we're curious if the two-row Grand Cherokee's rearward perspective will be altered further. The dual-tone look on this two-row Grand Cherokee does look sharp though.

What's under the Hood

Jeep's development of a plug-in hybrid is a logical transition toward the creation of an all-electric vehicle, as it will be required to comply with the worldwide standard within the next decade or so.

Although Jeep hasn't given any information about the Grand Cherokee 4xe's drivetrain, we expect that it will be similar to the Wrangler 4xe's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that's paired with a single electric motor. Total system output is rated at 375 horsepower and 470-pound feet of torque.

To Sum it Up

By 2025, Jeep plans to have a zero-emission 4xe in every SUV segment. The automaker says that its 4xe approach will make their SUVs the most capable and sustainable 4 wheel drive vehicles globally and 70% of all Jeep sales will be electrified.

Coming to this new Grand Cherokee 4xe, it will be officially unveiled next month at the New York International Auto Show, which runs from August 20th through August 29th.
