Jeep introduced the Wagoneer concept back in September 2020 and released the production-spec SUV in 2021. It was branched out into two avatars – the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer. Fast forward to the present day, the automaker has decided to come up with stretched versions of both these vehicles with the ‘L’ suffix added to them. It seems to be a tried-and-tested method since Jeep did the same with the Grand Cherokee L as well. But, what makes the L versions of the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer even more special is that they come with the automaker’s new ‘Hurricane’ engine!

What’s Special About The Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L?

Both these three-row SUVs are not short on space, to begin with. But, the full-sized stretched three-row SUVs are a niche that’s quite common these days. We’re talking about vehicles like the Ford Expedition Max, the Chevy Suburban, the Lincoln Navigator L, and the Cadillac Escalade ESV.

The highlight of the Wagoneer L and the Grand Wagoneer L is obviously the dimensions. Both these SUVs measure 226.7 inches in length; 12 inches longer than their standard versions. The wheelbase has grown by seven inches. The extra length doesn’t add much to the passenger volume, but reflects heavily on the cargo capacity.

With all the seats in place, you get 42 cubic feet of space to stow away your luggage in the Wagoneer L and 44.2 cubic feet in the Grand Wagoneer L. Flip the third- and the second row, and you’ll have up to 131 cubic feet of space available at your disposal in the Wagoneer L and 112.9 cubic feet in the Grand Wagoneer L.

While the Wagoneer L beats the Lincoln Navigator L in this aspect (max cargo capacity 120.2 cubic feet), both the stretched Jeep SUVs lose to the king of the segment – the Cadillac Escalade ESV which offers up to 142.8 cubic feet of space.

Now, coming to the drivetrain, both the SUVs are available with Jeep’s brand-new Hurricane engine. This is a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo straight-six engine that is offered in different states in both SUVs.

In both the states of tune, the engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The lower “S.O” version will deliver 19 miles to the gallon combined, which is 1 mpg more than the 5.7-liter V-8. The 510-HP “H.O” version will return 16 mpg combined, which is 1 mpg more than the 6.4-liter V-8. The fuel efficiency could’ve perhaps been better if not for the extra 200 pounds of weight of the stretched versions. The fuel tanks on the L models can swallow four gallons more than their regular counterparts.
