F1 Champ Jensen Button took the Emira around the famed Laguna Seca Circuit and came impressed with Lotus’ latest creationby Khris Bharath, on LISTEN 02:44
The Lotus Emira, which made its successful world debut last month, is making its maiden appearance in the United States with an exceptional driver behind the wheel.
Lotus is a brand that is renowned for making some spectacular lightweight performance cars and what better way to prove that with an F1 Star at the wheel of its newest car. Jenson Button or JB, the 2009 Formula One World Champion, put the all-new gas-powered sports car through its paces at the legendary Laguna Seca Raceway in California. After giving it the beans, Button appreciated the Emira’s sound and also acknowledged how well it is suited for the track, unlike most road cars.
Jenson, like Lotus, was in California for the Monterey Car Week. He recently unveiled the Radford 62-2 – a modern take on the classic Lotus Type 62 from the ’60s that is set to be produced in limited numbers and will be manufactured using Lotus technology.
Coming back to the Emira, it is Lotus’ brand-new mid-engined sports car that flawlessly symbolizes the renowned British automaker’s continuous evolution. Its striking eye-catching design delivers exotic supercar appeal that is truly unique in the sportscar market. With fluidic surfaces and strong character lines, the most apparent part of Emira’s design is its inspiration from the much-hyped Lotus Evija hypercar.
At launch, there will be two gas engines on offer: An all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged ‘i4’ with AMG as a technical partner along with the much-loved and lively 3.5-liter supercharged V-6 from the critically acclaimed Evora GT. The power output ranges between 360 and 400 horsepower. As far as transmissions go you have three options: A manual, an automatic, or a dual-clutch.
Regardless of the variant you choose, the Emira can get from 0 to 62 mph in under 4.5 seconds.
As the Lotus brand grows into a genuinely global performance automaker, the U.S. is a critical market for a model like the Emira, and Lotus dealers from across the country have indeed noticed a considerable demand for Lotus’ latest offering from potential consumers. The Lotus Emira will be accompanied by the Lotus Evija hypercar and the Radford 62-2 at the Quail; a Motorsport Gathering on Friday, August the 13th. All three cars will be presented at a news conference at the Lotus booth at 9.15 a.m. PDT.
