It’s been almost four years since the Kia GT Concept was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but the rear-drive, coupe-like sedan is back in the news again. Drive.com.au sat down with Orth Hedrick, Kia’s head of product planning in the U.S., who said that a production version of the concept car is in the works and there is “an announcement coming soon” on the matter.

A good indication of this is the fact that Kia->ke41 just recently unveiled the Kia Novo Concept at the Seoul Motor Show, which has the same fastback shape as the Kia GT, but a more production-ready front-end design. This new concept is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder, while the Kia GT Concept had a turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 rated at 390 horsepower.

On the flip side, coupe fans don’t have as much cheery news to rejoice over. Hedrick goes on to say that the 2014 Kia GT Stinger is still under consideration, but such a dedicated coupe isn’t likely to make it to make it to production. This car would have been a perfect rival for the Scion FR-S and Hyundai Genesis Coupe, but as Hedrick points out, the popularity of such cars fades fast.
