When we think of electric vehicles, usually the first to come to mind is Tesla - the brand that started the modern-day EV revolution. Then there’s Rimac and their Nevera hyper EV, or some of the more mainstream names like Porsche, with their Taycan. What probably doesn’t come to mind is a small Bulgarian manufacturer called Kinetik Automotive. The small carmaker is currently cooking an epic EV roadster, but unfortunate events have caused a temporary cease in development.

Why the halt in development?

Sadly for the young carmaker, Kinetik Automotive’s Headquarters, in Varna, caught on fire due to a short circuit. The fire was put out eventually, but not before causing substantial damage to the building and equipment. In order to negate the setback, Kinetik has turned to the public for help. The crowdfunding campaign is still in motion and there are 17 days left. The accumulated sum at the time of penning this article is $54,824.

The Kinetik 07

In 2016, Kinetik Automotive set out with the goal of building the first track-focused electric sports car. The result is Kinetik 07. The car scores a Barchetta body style, which means no windshield. The body itself is entirely 3D-printed.

The two-seat track EV is based on a Caterham Seven, but don’t expect it to move like one. The Kinetik 07 weighs about half a ton more, due to its electric motors, but it more than makes up for that with power. Although the Kinetik 07 prototype scores significantly lower figures, the production version, which is production-ready by the way, has a combined power output is 644 horsepower and allows the small two-seater to reach from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.7 seconds.

Unlike the Caterham Seven, the Kinetik 07 has a full software suite, including digital information screens. In addition to being the maker of the first track-focused EV, Kinetik Automotive also prides itself on producing all components in-house.

Should the small manufacturer manage to raise the required funds to continue its work, the Kinetik 07 has the potential to change the image of electric vehicles from dull and boring to fun and engaging. We can definitely picture Kinetik Cup Racing Series, sometime in the future.
