Your car probably has three coats of paint. It has a primer, basecoat, and a clear coat. And, honestly, it is enough to protect the metal and to give your car a lovely exterior hue. However, in recent years, since some manufacturers started creating really expensive vehicles, we are spoiled with some incredible paint options. I remember when Bugatti revealed the Veyron L'Or Blanc. It is a car covered with porcelain. Now, that's a finish you don't see every day. Then, BMW sold 30 units of the M3 painted in Frozen Gray. It was a $20k paint option. Owners had to promise BMW and sign an agreement that the car will never be polished or sent to an automatic car wash — talking about the delicacy! Now, however, it seems that all of these paint jobs simply pale in the presence of the astounding Koenigsegg Jesko. Created from no less than 30 coats of paint (Kosilla says 34 coats of paint), the Koenigsegg Jesko's paint finish may well be the best finish on a car. Ever!

The Koenigsegg Jesko Has a Better Paint Job Than a Rolls-Royce, Bentley, or Porsche

One of the best car detailers in the world - Larry Kosilla from AMMO NYC - had a chance to work on the show prototype of the Koenigsegg Jesko. He concluded that this car probably has the best possible finish he had ever seen on a car. And that guy has some knowledge. He worked on everything - from a Rolls Royce, to Ford GT. While the Rolls-Royce paint is astonishing, it is not as impressive as in the Jesko.

So, without further ado, let me tell you what makes Jesko paint job so damn impressive! Kosilla proudly presented in his video that Koenigsegg Jesko paint job comprises of:

-* 20 base coat layers

-* 1 Pearl coat

-* 1 Champagne coat

-* 3 coats of Gray/Blue/Green layer

-* 9 coats of clear coat

This kind of artistry is, of course, incredible, even unheard of in the world of production cars. Just so you know how thick this paint really is, Kossila measured it with the Ultrasonic Thickness measuring device. It shows its results in mils (0.001 inch - or one-thousandth of an inch). This Koenigsegg Jesko has three times as much paint on it compared even with the Rolls-Royce. Not only that but Kossila said that the Jesko paint job is the best he had ever seen on a car.

Now, if you are to take this device and measure the paint thickness on your car, it would probably show 3.5-5mils. That goes to show how crazy Koenigsegg went with the Jesko paint job.

The Koenigsegg Jesko's Paintjob Weighs How Much?

I actually wondered just how heavy this paint scheme could be. Now, I did not find the details about it, but I do know one thing. When Koenigsegg released incredible naked Regera with exposed carbon fiber, the company said that it saved 44 pounds of paint. 50 pounds! That's a lot.

Do you know what Lotus has to do to save 50 pounds on the Evora?

Well, it has to sell you so-called Carbon Pack for $10,000. That will give you a carbon-fiber roof panel, tailgate, diffuser, and front access panel. These carbon fiber parts save 50 pounds compared with the classic aluminum pieces. Well, Koenigsegg just slaps all of those pounds on the surface of its carbon-fiber bodied Jesko.

Kinda amazing!

What Kind Of A Car Deserves A Paintjob Like This?

Koenigsegg Jesko is the latest Swedish hypercar, named after Christian von Koenigsegg father, Jesko. In fact, Koenigsegg plans to create a far sleeker version of the car. In the right conditions, that car could actually reach a top speed of more than 300 mph.

The Swedish company limits the production of the Jesko to 125 units. Apparently, all of them had been spoken for. On the other hand, we are still to see a working prototype. I have actually seen the Jesko Kosilla detailed earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show. The car is not in working condition. It is a showcar prototype.

Conclusion

While the paint job on the Jesko sounds amazing, the thing is that any boutique car producer would do (or at least try to do) the same for its customers. Just as I have been writing this piece, Porsche released photos of the special Porsche 959 developed for an Arab sheik back in 1980s. One of them looks golden!

Even the standard manufacturers can spoil you to death with cool options. Cadillac offered so-called Black Diamond Edition Tri-Coat paint option as an extra.

Mercedes-Benz Alubeam is yet another fantastic color scheme for the SLS AMG. It was a $13,000 option. To apply a color that somewhat mimicked the appearance of the Silver arrows from the thirties, Mercedes-Benz engineers had to develop a system to enhance the surface on which the paint is applied. Workers polished the aluminum even before the car went for a paint job.

Obviously, Koenigsegg went further than most with its paint job on the Jesko.
