Aston Martin has revived the Lagonda marque as a luxury all-electric brand and is going berserk with new launches in a short frame of time. The company has unveiled its second concept car, the Lagonda All-Terrain Concept, at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Unlike the last year's audacious Lagonda Vision concept, Aston Martin says that this one will make it to production. From what we have seen, we really hope it does.

This SUV Is One Of A Kind

The Lagonda All-Terrain Concept is the third model that Aston Martin has brought to Switzerland, alongside the Vanquish Vision and the AM-RB 003. The Vision Concept and the All-Terrain Concept share the same platform along with many other key components. In fact, there is a resemblance as well. The sleek profile, as is with any EV that peeps into the future, is visible on this bigger Lagonda as well. Aston Martin says that although the Lagonda All-Terrain Concept is in the same net worth as the Rolls Royce Cullinan and the Bentley Bentayga, it is primarily aimed at tech-heads. Aston Martin boss, Andy Palmer, said, “This is a car for tech entrepreneurs, the guys who drive Teslas, not Bentleys and Rolls-Royces. It’s in the same high-net-worth market but not aimed at the same customer.”

Is It An SUV Or A Yatch?

On the inside, the Lagonda All-Terrain Concept has "taken some of its initial design language from the world of the super yacht". Instead of using more traditional materials, the automaker will offer cashmere and crystal to create a different vibe and aura. The driver and the front passenger can swivel their seats to face the passengers at the back. That's possible because the car offers an autonomous driving mode. As for the doors, they open in part-suicide-part-gullwing fashion. The air conditioning vents also have a very unorthodox housing, but the most interesting feature is the floating physical key. It levitates between the two front seats by the way of electromagnets! Not the most inconvenient way to place the key in the cabin, I say. There are two digital displays as well - one on the steering wheel and one on the center console.

It Will Require A Humongous Battery Pack

Aston Martin has not released any technical specification for the Lagonda All-Terrain Concept yet, but the SUV is said be in an all-wheel-drive configuration and will be powered by two electric motors, one on each axle. It will not be a full-fledged, take-it-anywhere SUV, but will have off-track potential rather than off-road”.The automaker plans to offer wireless rapid-charging technology that would fully replenish the batteries in 15 minutes! If Aston Martin could succeed at it, it will be a game-changing moment in the industry. In a bid to increase efficiency between models, and even cut costs to an extent, the two Lagonda concepts showcased will share their suspensions with the upcoming DBX SUV.

Final Thoughts

There are some very new, and rather weird, features that Aston Martin will offer on the Lagonda All-Terrain Concept. One of them, for instance, is the rear shelf that slides out from the floor only when the passengers need a platform to perch on. At other times, it will be hidden from plain sight and will sit flush with the body. What are your thoughts on this out-of-the-world Lagonda All-Terrain Concept?
