Lambo->ke44 has just announced that a roadster->ke1418 version of its 2015 Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce is now officially available. Only 500 roadsters will be built.

The news comes straight from Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann, who spoke during the Aventador Superveloce coupe’s U.K. debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this past weekend. As the high-powered two-door made its run “up the hill,” Winkelmann said that all 600 coupes->ke141 were already accounted for, and that first deliveries were starting now. More excitingly, he went on to add that the Italian make would also offer a roofless version, and that dealers worldwide are currently taking orders.

Anyone looking to pick one up is encouraged to make their intentions known sooner rather than later, considering the hardtop sold out in just three months. Pricing is not yet confirmed, but expect to pay a good deal over the coupe’s $400,000 plus MSRP.

Why it matters

We already saw the 2016 Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster out for winter testing, but it’s nice to finally get some confirmation without all the stalking-in-the-shadows business. The Aventador is, in many ways, the iconic adolescent bedroom poster dream machine – it’s high-tech, looks like it came from another dimension, sounds like it’s powered by demons, and goes like hell. A roadster version just ups the drama to 11.

Speaking at Goodwood, Winkelmann said the Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce is “...the most pure, sports-oriented and emotional incarnation of a Lamborghini,” which begs the question – what’s that make the roadster variant?

Sure, the drop-top will have unlimited headroom and the same high-powered engine, but the extra bracing required to retain chassis rigidity is sure to add a little weight, which, if you ask me, is a bit odd in a stripped-out, hardcore model like the SV.

But it doesn’t really matter. This thing is sure to sell out even faster than the coupe, and given the brand’s proclivity for making amazing roadsters, the result is sure to justify the hype.

2016 Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce Roadster

The Superveloce designation first appeared on Lambos back in the ‘60s, with the Miura->ke378 being the first model the bear the title. Dropped for three decades, the name then reappeared in 1995 on the 1995-1999 Lamborghini Diablo SV, subsequently finding its way onto the Murcielago->ke1267 and Aventador.->ke3624 Only the Murcielago was offered as a roadster, and now, the Aventador will be the next SV drop-top. Expect the same 6.5-liter V-12 mounted in the middle, with 740 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque routed to all four wheels. Performance figures will look like a 0-to-60 time under three seconds, with a top speed in excess of 200 mph.
