Lamborghini took the whole world by surprise when it announced that the ‘Countach’ nameplate is making a comeback three decades after it was sent into oblivion. Although nothing much was revealed other than a silhouette of the wedge-shaped car, the Italian automaker decided to continue hyping the car by revealing a few more teaser pictures within a couple of days of the first announcement. Lamborghini took to Instagram to upload three more images of the upcoming Countach that suggest that it could arrive sooner than expected. Are you as pumped up about it as we are?
The New Countach Is Leaked And This Is What It Looks Like
It will be tough to find a person who doesn’t like the original Countach. Reviving it was a very big deal and we’ll leave it up to you to decide whether you like the new design or now. Although looks are subjective, I would’ve liked it if Lamborghini went more retro. Integrating the modern design elements into the original design rather than instilling a modern Lamborghini with touches of the original Countach would’ve been a better call.
Images of the interior are yet to be revealed (more like leaked, at this point), but we hope it resonates with the original model that includes a simple three-spoke steering wheel devoid of any buttons, analog gauges behind it, and a cabin devoid of the electronic wizardry. Let’s see how Lamborghini has panned it out.

What Do We Know About The Countach In The Second Tease Installment?
The first picture is of the front end. The sharp front end comes with an opening and a front splitter. There’s also the Countach branding on the nose. The final image gives us another glimpse of the Countach-styling vibes after the covered silhouette image it revealed first. The image showcases the engine air intake that is reminiscent of the original model. A black Lamborghini fuel-filler cap ahead of it.
The second image gives us a peek at the engine bay that has a V-12 badge on it. In all likelihood, this will be a new V-12 engine since the company is retiring the one it currently has in its arsenal.
An Electrified V-12 Replaces The Current V-12
In July this year, Lamborghini announced the final iteration of the Aventador called the Aventador Ultimae. With this, the automaker was not just retiring the Aventador badge, but it was also putting the V-12 engine to rest. With the world moving towards electrification, a lot of us were puzzled if this was the last time we’ll be seeing a V-12 Lamborghini ever. But, Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini’s CEO, confirmed that this V-12 is getting replaced by another V-12.
The new V-12 engine won’t share anything with the one it replaces. Although he didn’t delve into specifics about it, Mr. Winkelmann noted that the engine will come with a hybrid system.
The V-12 that Lamborghini presently has displaces at 6.5 liters. It is devoid of any turbos, and makes 769 horses and 531 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to a seven-speed gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system with a rear mechanical self-locking differential. The free-revving engine maxes out at 8,500 rpm. It sprints to 62 mph from rest in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 221 mph.
As for the first-gen Countach, it featured a 4.0-liter, V-12 engine. It churned out 370 horses and 269 pound-feet of twist.} It took 5.4 seconds to sprint from naught to 62 mph and had a top speed of 192 mph.
Final Thoughts
At a time when automakers are reviving monikers from the past – Jeep Wagoneer, Ford Bronco, GMC Hummer – it seems like the right time for Lamborghini to get on the trend, too. No specific details about its arrival are announced so far, but given how Lamborghini teased it for the second time this week, we won’t be surprised if it comes out within the next few months. Not to mention, this year happens to be the Countach’s 50th anniversary. Also, there’s 2021 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance this weekend and a good time to unveil it. Too soon?
