Land Rover Defender is one of the toughest SUVs that money can buy you. The automaker reminded people of the same when it decided to send a fleet of Defenders to the Alps as support vehicles for the Red Bulls X-Alps adventure race. The Defender will be used to ferry people and supplies around, and will also act as recovery vehicles for the athletes.

What Is The Red Bull X-Alps Race?

The race takes place every two years and is spread across 12 days. The race has 32 athletes this year attempting to cross more than 600 miles of the alpine terrain. They hike over 30 miles that include up to 5,000 meters of vertical ascent. Not to mention that they then paraglide, too, in such treacherous conditions.

What Exactly Is The Defender’s Role In This Event?

The Land Rover Defender will be the support vehicle at the Red Bull X-Alps 2021 adventure race. The automaker is supporting seven athletes out of the 32 wherein the Defender 110 will be their mobile home. The car will be used to carry around vital supplies and equipment. These Defenders will come equipped with Autohome roof tents wherein athletes can rest and recover.

The Autohome roof tent was invented by the folks at Land Rover back in 1958. The hard shell roof tent can be opened and closed easily and even comes with a mattress. Apart from the Roof Tent, these Defenders will also be equipped with:

-* Land Rover’s Portable Rinse System

-* Exterior Side-Mounted Gear Carriers

-* Integrated Air Compressors

The Red Bull X-Alps adventure race is held from 20 June to 2 July this year.
