All over the world people talk about CO2 emission and how to reduce it. but in the same time automakers launch more and more SUVs. So, Land Rover decided to show the world that SUVs can be rugged and environmentally friendly.

"For Land Rover, as a leading manufacturer of authentic SUVs, it is appropriate for us to show some leadership," Land Rover Managing Director Phil Popham told Automotive News Europe. "We will exceed the industry improvement targets , and we will be talking about the potential to build a car in the future that will be seen as a leader in the SUV market."

The first step was made with the unveiling of the LRX Concept which is derived from the second-generation Freelander, and also smaller than anything in the company’s current range. Popham said that the vehicle is supposed to gauge customer reaction regarding size, styling and performance.

"When we reveal our concept, we will talk about the sorts of technology we will be using and the number of grams per kilometer we could get," Popham said.

"Hybrid is going to go across the range," Popham said. "If we apply it to something like the concept, we get the best CO2 results for the headlines. But the important thing is that this technology will apply to all of our vehicles and our fleet average will go down consistently."
