Land Rover is preparing to shock the world! As all of the other automakers are setting up camp on the efficiency bandwagon, Land Rover has just decided to grab on to the back end of it and scramble to get on. The company announced they are preparing to reveal their first ever front wheel drive model. The car is known as the Compact Range Rover and will be revealed at the end of this year. The company's main focus with the new model will be lowering running costs and improving fuel efficiency. The Compact Range Rover's new setup will allow it to cut CO2 emissions to 120g/km, making it the greenest SUV so far.

Land Rover is also preparing to bring a new version of the TD4 E stop and start Freelander - this time paired with an automatic gearbox. Also, in 2013, the Compact Range Rover will be offered with a hybrid drive-train.

The company is currently busy working on a new hybrid, full hybrid, and a range of extended electric vehicles that will be put under testing by the end of the year. Known as the "range_e", this new technology combines a new eight speed automatic gearbox, V6 diesel engine, and 190nm electric motor.

Don't be surprised if other Land Rover projects end up with 2WD or hybrid powertrain setups. This will probably start spreading like wildfire!
