Project Runningblade is not the title of a government operation, nor is it a proposed Hollywood movie. What it is, is far more exciting - at least to those people who get all geeked up with world speed record attempts - than any other use of the title you can think of.

So, to spill the beans on what this whole operation is, Project Runningblade is a world-record attempt by a lawnmower. Yep, a lawnmower. Before you start giggling at the thought of how fast a grass-cutting lawnmower can really run, consider that the current record, which was set by Bobby Cleveland back in 2006, is a pretty impressive 80 mph.

This one, as the members of Project Runningblade claim, can run at 100 mph. The machine that's being used for the record attempt is a Countax Garden tractor that's powered by a Kawasaki engine and, while it sounds a little ridiculous to chase a lawnmower speed record, the attempt is harder than you can imagine. This is especially true considering there are a lot of regulations to follow, least of which is the lawnmower's speed and it's ability to cut grass in the process.

The history-making event is set to commence on May 22-23, 2010 at the Pendine Sands in Wales.
