The 2019 Lexus ES is all set to make its debut at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show. We don’t know much in the way of details at this point, but a teaser image released by Arabic website Almuraba gives us a glimpse at the front of the redesigned sedan. Once the new ES is done waving to the cameras in Beijing, it is expected to go on sale sometime in the second half of the year.

The Lexus ES has been around for almost 30 years, largely serving as Lexus’ resident mid-size sedan. Now in its sixth generation, we’ve seen the ES’ design evolve over the years to accommodate whatever design language Lexus is using at the time. It’s no surprise then that the redesigned model is getting a few design tweaks of its own, resulting in a more sculpted look that embraces Lexus’ current style direction.

The teaser image doesn’t reveal everything, but we can see that the headlights have been reshaped and the grille now uses vertical slats instead of the horizontal ones found on the model it’s replacing. A few minor design tweaks can also be seen, most notably the chrome trim on the grille and fog light fixtures.

We should know more details about the revamped ES when it makes its debut in Beijing. For now, it’s understood that the ES will use a stretched version of Toyota’s TNGA modular design. That’s a departure from the current platform the sedan is using; a decision brought about to make the ES lighter and handle better. If that’s going to be the case, the ES will share the platform with a number of Toyota and Lexus models, including the Prius, Avalon, and NX.

As far as engine options are concerned, Lexus’ 3.5-liter V-6 should be one of the offerings. A hybrid model should also be in the cards, one that will continue to feature the 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid setup that the current ES uses.

All will be revealed at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show, which opens its doors on April 25. The facelifted ES will then go on sale later this year as it seeks to continue the momentum of its predecessor, which is responsible for over 50,000 sold units in the U.S. in 2017, outsold only by the RX and NX crossovers.
