We’ve waited long enough, Toyota!

Would you believe that it’s been over five years since BMW and Toyota announced that they were working on a joint sports car development? We haven’t seen the fruits of that collaboration from either side, but a recent post on the VW Vortex forum points to what could be the actual specs for the Toyota Supra. Could these be the details that we’ve been waiting for all this time? More importantly, do these details open the door for the Supra to finally make its debut? We certainly hope so.

The Supra will have a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine that will produce 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque

The post on the VW Vortex forum refers to scanned images from the March issue of Japan’s Best Car magazine. As far as sources go, this is as credible as it comes. The magazine claims that the Supra will have a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine that will produce 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. All that power is coursed through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Surprisingly, the publication also hinted that the engine is capable of producing an extra 37 pound-feet of torque during periods of overboost, an indication that the sports car could have a frisky acceleration time. Other engines are also available, including an entry-level variant that comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit with 195 horsepower in play. A more powerful four-cylinder engine — likely for the U.S. market — is also in play with 248 horsepower at its disposal.

Physically, the Supra reportedly measures 172.4 inches long, 73,03 inches wide, 50.79 inches tall, and a wheelbase measuring 97.24 inches. For comparison’s sake, the Supra’s length is exactly the same as the Porsche 718 Cayman. The Supra is wider by a little more than two inches compared to the Cayman’s width of 70.9 inches while the German sports car is taller by a whisker with a height of 51 inches. On the measurement of weight, the Supra is said to tip the scales at 3,298 pounds, though it’s unclear if this figure refers to the coupe’s dry weight, curb weight, or its Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). The specs also showed that the Supra would be using a set of 17-inch 225/50 tires in the front and a set of 17-inch 255/45 tires at the back.

The information found on Best Car magazine lines up well with past rumors and reports about the sports car. Maybe it’s time to get excited because the article also references where the Supra will make it’s long overdue debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Cross your fingers that the Japanese auto magazine hit the nail on the head with that revelation.

Seriously, Toyota, we’ve been waiting five years for this!
