We already know that LeBron James has been tapped to serve as a #HummerGMCAmbassador, but what we didn’t know is that part of the perks of being an ambassador is to take delivery of a Hummer EV First Edition right on your driveway and show it off on social media for the entire world to see.

The how’s and why’s of it are irrelevant. LeBron James is one of the most recognized celebrities in the world. That was more than enough for GMC to tap the four-time NBA champion to be the ambassador for the brand’s upcoming — and long-awaited — Hummer EV. We already saw a peek into this partnership with the “Quiet Revolution” teaser advertisement that was aired during Super Bowl LIV last year.

Now that the Hummer EV is close to its launch date — it goes on sale in fall 2021 — we can expect LeBron James to have a more active role in hyping up an all-electric truck that you can argue doesn’t need any more hype.

The two-minute video, which he curiously posted on his son Bronny’s YouTube channel, is all about LeBron talking up the Hummer EV. As one of the first people who got to see the new Hummer in-the-flesh, LeBron didn’t waste any time talking the model up. He spends a bit of time panning his camera to show the Hummer’s front end. He does the walkaround bit, completely with commentaries about the truck’s Pearl White exterior, 36-inch wheels, and the detachable two-piece roof panels. He also gives us a quick peek at the Hummer EV’s interior, which expectedly comes with an all-digital presentation, including a massive infotainment system sitting in the middle of the dashboard.

Proving his chops as a seasoned pitchman, LeBron rattles off a lot of the Hummer EV’s specs, including the truck’s ability to go from 0 to 60 mph in just three seconds. LeBron even squeezed in a comment about the EV’s crab-walk feature.

To be clear, though, the Hummer EV that’s sitting in his driveway isn’t the one that he’ll be seen driving in the Los Angeles area. From the looks of it, this is the same static Hummer EV that we’ve seen in other walkaround videos on YouTube. That’s not out of the ordinary since most automakers do have press models that are built for this specific purpose. Still, even if LeBron James doesn’t drive this model out on the streets, you can bet that he’s getting the freshest piece of the pie from GMC.

The H2 ultimately became the subject of an investigation conducted by the Ohio High School Athletic Association to determine if James had violated the state’s amateur bylaws by accepting a reward valued at more than $100 for his “athletic feats.” James was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing after his mother, Gloria, was discovered to have been the one who gave the H2 to his son for his 18th birthday. Apparently, Gloria James took out a $50,000 loan against her son’s future earning power.

The H2 has since changed ownership hands in numerous times since LeBron drove it in high school. Most recently, the Hummer was listed at Goldins Auction in November 18 with a starting price of $50,000. Unfortunately, the reservation price for the massive SUV was not met. Perhaps LeBron should just buy his old H2 so it can sit side-by-side in his garage with the Hummer EV that he will undoubtedly receive from GMC sometime this year.
