LEGO and Dodge are no strangers to one another. The two companies have partnered numerous times in the past, and it’s the strength of that partnership that opened the doors for the creation of a new, limited edition Speed Champions set featuring miniature versions of the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T and 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. The kit costs $39.95 and, in addition to the two muscle cars, it also comes with three mini figures — two drivers and a race marshal — and a Christmas tree. No, not a traditional Christmas tree, but the start-go, lights-based system that are used to start modern drag races. To commemorate the partnership — and the subsequent product — LEGO and Dodge also teamed up to create a commercial featuring none other than NHRA drag racing champion Leah Pritchett. This early in the year, the product planning is already on point.

For those of you who were tuned in just before the holiday season, you’ll remember that I introduced LEGO’s 2019 Speed Champions lineup. This limited edition kit is part of that lineup alongside other exciting new LEGO kits featuring the likes of the Ferrari F40 Competizione and the McLaren Senna. For now, though, the miniaturized 1970 Dodge Charger R/T and 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon are taking center stage, largely because it’s the first of the 2019 Speed Champions lineup to get its own commercial.

Now, let’s take a deep dive on what we can expect from this kit. We already know that the package includes both the 1970 Charger R/T and the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon. The 1970 Charger R/T, for example, comes with a removable supercharger and an alternate engine cover. In addition, the classic pony car also features what LEGO describes as “translucent light-style elements and authentic design details.” I get the authentic design details part, but the translucent light-style elements are features I’m looking forward to seeing.

Let’s move on to the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT. Wouldn’t it be cool if it had its own 840-horsepower V-8 engine under that hood? Unfortunately, neither science nor common sense can make that work. So we’ll settle for what the LEGO-sized SRT Demon offers. In this case, we’re getting a removable windshield, two sets of wheels, and actual rubber tires. I personally like the features of the 1970 Charger R/T better, but that’s only because I think the Charger R/T is one of the most iconic cars of all time and I wouldn’t mind having a LEGO version of it to go with my growing Speed Champions line.

Besides, the set is a limited edition, so there’s a good chance that LEGO’s going to retire it once stocks run out. To slam home the appeal of the Dodge LEGO kit, the automaker event went the extra mile to create a 30-second commercial starring none other than NHRA drag racing champion Leah Pritchett. The ad will be shown on social media and YouTube first before making its way on TV. “We know that many of our Dodge//SRT enthusiasts become fans of the brand at an early age, and like me, also grow up building LEGO vehicles that we dream of one day driving on the road,” FCA’s head of North American passenger car brands, Steve Beahm, said in a statement.

Whether you’re a young child or an adult living vicariously through your youth, this LEGO kit featuring the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T and the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is a must-have.
