• Lewis Hamilton Will Race The Gumball 3000 Rally This Year

Known to routinely attract a number of celebrities and racing drivers, the Gumball 3000 rally is getting ready to welcome a new personality. This time around it’s not an actor or a musician, but reigning Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton. Already on his way toward another F1 title, the British driver will leave its racing squad briefly to compete in the Los Angeles to Las Vegas leg of this year Gumball 3000. What remains a mystery is the car Ham will be driving for nearly 270 miles, but given he owns a unique Pagani Zonda 760 LH and that he recently bought a LaFerrari, he should show up in something fast and loud.

Hamilton joins a long list of celebrities that have taken part in the Gumball 3000, including David Hasselhoff, Deadmau5 and Tony Hawk, just to name a few.

The 2015 Gumball 3000 will once again follow a transatlantic route, although this time it will start in Europe and end in the United States. The rally will commence in Stockholm on May 23rd and pass through Oslo, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, San Francisco and Los Angeles, before coming to a glorious finishin Las Vegas a week later.

Considering the dates, Hamilton will have to squeeze his trip to the U.S. between the Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo (May 24th) and the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal (June 7th).

Why it maters

Given the tight scheduled Formula One drivers have from February to November, spending a day with the Gumball 3000 is easier said than done. On the other hand, with the Mercedes-AMG dominating the series once again this year, Hamilton should have a comfortable lead in the drivers’ championship by the time he needs to take the trip to the U.S.

It would be best if he could take his W06 race car with him, but I can’t see that happening unless it gets flown in by pigs.
