The English weight conscious sportscar builders, Lotus have announced a special edition of their lightweight Elise model designed specifically for the US market. Priced just a shade under $44,000 the 2009 Lotus Elise Purist Edition is now available for orders.

The Purist Edition is optioned with the Sport Pack and includes everything from the Touring Pack except the iPod interface and leather covering the transmission tunnel and the door inserts. This special edition is being offered in three colors: Ardent Red, Saffron Yellow, and Monaco White.

Under the engine cover, is a mid mounted 1.8 Liter 4 cylinder making 190 HP. The power rockets the Lotus from 0-60 MPH in only 4.9 seconds and keeps going until a top speed of 150 MPH. Thanks to the lack of excess mass the well performing Elise is able to achieve 21 MPG in the city and up to 27 MPG on the highway.

There are three important things that we have to sum up about this Purist. 1. Its made specifically for the US Market. 2. Its packed with sporty features. 3. It is cheap. Now the question is why? It is Lotus new marketing strategy.

This Elise Purist Edition at one hand is considerable for the fact that it is being offered at a very affordable price for the line of sports car. But on the other hand, will this bargain price really attack buyers in the US market?

This Purist Edition with sport package in a bargain price is not a bad deal. The only question is would you like to spend your $44K for a Lotus.

Well it is indeed all about marketing the product. This Elise Purist Edition is the Lotus car made just for this purpose.

The Purist Elise is made specifically for the US market and of course in a lower price but with the top of the line sport packages. It main purpose is to entice the Us market to buy their car despite the period of recession and be assured that they are getting value with their money.

Well Lotus really have to do this if they want to get a marked in the US market. Given the fact that recession is not yet over, Lotus have to make this car an an alternative option for most car buyers.

I am not also a Lotus Enthusiast but press releases say that Lotus target is to boost sales. It’s very simple sales tactic – offer more car for less money starting with this Elise Purist Edition specifically made for the US market. This car is based on the Elise Sport package and it also throws in some goodies from the Touring package. So far what you only need is extra space in your garage to take this Purist home.

I am not big fan of Elise but I have to commend Lotus with this lightweight car in their line up. Of course this Purist special edition is really impressive for managing to loose excessive weight. This is every sports car manufacturer’s envy.
