Lotus has confirmed that the GT (codenamed as the "Project Eagle") is indeed under production and will go on sale in 2009 at a price between £45,000 and £48,000. The Lotus GT will make its world debut next year at the London Motor Show.

The Lotus "Project Eagle" will be powered by a transverse mounted Toyota V6 engine and as an option it will feature a paddle-gearbox. Lotus also confirmed that a convertible version is in the work and will be revealed shortly after the coupe.

Also the company will release the new Esprit in 2010. Based around the same architecture as the GT, the Esprit will be more inline with the current Lotus philosophy of lightweight performance and focused dynamics, but also more spacious and capable of much higher top speeds than either an Elise, an Exige or a Europa.

The 2010 Esprit will have a price tag of £80,000 and will be a serious competition for the Porsche 911.
