When Lucid announced that it will break the Tesla Model S’ 400 mile-range on a single charge, it was expected to be a few miles more, or just win by the nose. However, Lucid surprised everyone that in its best form, the Air delivers an EPA-estimated range of 517 miles.

Talk About Efficiency

Initially, Lucid had planned to power Air with a 130-kWh battery pack, but it announced that the Air was able to be highly efficient and achieve this range using a smaller battery. Lucid’s CEO, Peter Rawlinson, had said, “It’s relatively easy to achieve more range by adding progressively more batteries, but gaining ‘dumb range’ that way increases weight and cost, and reduces interior space. Lucid Air has achieved its remarkable range whilst also reducing battery size through its in-house technology, resulting in a breakthrough in overall vehicle-level efficiency.”

The Air is also quite efficient on the other trims. On the Touring model, the Air delivers 406 miles when riding on 19-inch wheels, and 517 miles on the Grand Touring when also equipped with 19-inch shoes. On the Dream Edition, it delivers 465 miles of range with 21-inch AeroDream wheels and 503 miles when equipped with 19-inch Aero Range wheels.

Lucid Air Is The Fastest Charging Electric Vehicle

Lucid also announced that it is the fastest charging EV available on the market today. The automaker stated that the Air can add up to 20 miles of range per minute when connected to a DC Fast Charging network. In real-world conditions, owners can still achieve 300 miles of range in 20 minutes, which translates to 15 miles of range per minute. It also features a 19.2-kW AC onboard “Wunderbox” charger that supports AC charging speeds.

Lucid has also developed something unique for home charging. Along with the standard mobile charging cord, Lucid also offers the Connected Home Charging Station. It is one of the first AC charging stations with bi-directional charging. This means the Lucid Air can double up as a temporary energy reserve to power your home or use it to draw power during camping.
