Mahindra came to Detroit with its Multi-Purpose Vehicle called the Marazzo. The minivan was seen hiding behind the Roxor at the Mahindra stall at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, but it still managed to catch plenty of attention. The Marazzo was manufactured for the Indian market, and the company has no plans to sell it in the U.S. So, why are we gushing about it?

The 2019 Mahindra Marazzo Was Designed in Michigan

The Marazzo has been jointly designed by the Mahindra Research Valley in India and Mahindra North American Technical Centre in Detroit, Michigan. So, technically, it debuted in the U.S. in its hometown! It has been designed by the in-house design studio and Pininfarina – the company now owned by Mahindra.

The 2019 Mahindra Marazzo Has a Body-on-Frame Construction

Body-on-frame construction is generally seen on big trucks and SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade or the Ford Expedition, for instance. But have you seen it on an MPV? Perhaps, the Marazzo is the only one to feature a body-on-frame construction with a transversely-mounted engine and a front-wheel-drive setup. This makes the MPV abuse-friendly and more spacious.

The 2019 Mahindra Marazzo Scored 4 Stars in NCAP Testing

By no means is this a fast vehicle. In fact, even the engine specs are not impressive as per U.S. market standards. The Marazzo is powered by a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder, diesel that develops 121 horses. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The Marazzo is also quite a safe car. It scored four stars in the global NCAP ratings.

The 2019 Mahindra Marazzo Starts Out Around $14,000

The car starts at Rs.10,00,000 in India (around $14,000). It’s a shame we won’t get the Marazzo here as this car would have caused a furor in the market. For people looking for a spacious hauler that can munch hundreds of thousands of miles in a short span of time, this MPV would have been a blessing. Not to mention the fact that it comes with a decent feature list as well – roof-mounted air vents for the rear passengers, 7.0-inch infotainment screen that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, etc.

For us, the Marazzo made a mark, and we hope to it see it on the U.S. market soon. Share your thoughts on the Mahindra Marazzo with us in the comments section below.
