After seeing the BMW 8 Series Concept, the BMW 8 Series GTE racer, and who knows how many spy shots and teasers, it looks like we’ll finally get to see the road-going 8 Series make its long-awaited debut. In a memo sent out to BMW sales reps, it was said that the new 8 Series will make its debut on June 15, 2018, at the 24 Hours of Le Mans – just prior to the 8 Series GTE taking to the track for the very first time.

It’s been a long time coming

The word comes via a post to BimmerPost where a salesman has disclosed what was sent out to BMW sales reps in the brand’s most recent bulletin:

"The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the world's oldest active sports car race in endurance racing, held annually since 1923 near the town of Le Mans, France and is considered is one of the most prestigious automobile races in the world. For the 24 Hours of Le Mans (15-17 June 2018) winners will provided a full experiential packages with a Highlight… the world premiere of the all-new BMW 8 Series on Friday night. The 5 winners from the US will participate in an unforgettable M experience. As more details of this amazing trip become available, they will be communicated. We are looking forward to welcoming you. Stay tuned!"

Of course, it’s not like we don’t know what we’re going to see when the sheet comes off. We’ve seen spy shots of the M8, we’ve seen the GTE racer, and we’ve even seen spy shots of the base 8 Series wearing the traditional camo. And, there’s the fact that the production version of the 8 Series is said to carry about 90-percent of the concept’s design.

Once the coupe debuts, expect to see other models come to life, including the M8 and the production version of the 8 Series Gran Coupe that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show just last month.
