Maybe a BMW M8 Touring Isn’t a Bad Idea After All

Back in the 1980s, BMW put together a one-off M8 based on the original 8 Series, and, ever since then, fanboys have been itching for another one. Well, we finally saw the BMW 8 Series flagship reintroduced to the market, and it didn’t take long for BMW to introduce the M8 in both coupe and Gran Coupe form. Prayers have been answered, velvet robes have parted, and the universe is finally at peace. But, what if BMW went all in and decided to introduce an M8 Touring? Well, design Xtomi decided to take the very first step for Bimmer, and we have to admit that we’re now hooked.

BMW M8 Touring – A Rendering that Must Come to Life!

With the BMW M8 being offered in coupe, convertible, and gran coupe form, why shouldn’t BMW just take the plunge and develop a wagon as well? Just take a look at the rendering above. There’s honestly no reason not to. For some reason, all of the M8’s design cues on a wagon body style is just attractive as hell. Of course, even if BMW did dive all in, chances of it coming to America are zilch – we’re so caught up on SUVs that BMW won’t even sell the 3 Series Touring here anymore. However, over in Europe, the M8 Touring could find itself an all-new niche to exploit.

The M8 competition in all other body forms delivers 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. Those figures would be enough to get the M8 Touring up to 60 mph in around three seconds, and top speed would still sit around 190 mph too. 60 mph in less than three seconds in a sexy ass wagon with an M badge on the back.

To emphasize the practicality that the M8 Touring would bring to BMW’s lineup, there isn’t really an SUV alternative. The 3 Series has the X3, the 5 Series has the X5, and so on. There is no X8 as of yet. We’re sure there will be at some point, of course, as BMW won’t ignore that niche for long, but for now my argument holds water.
