The AMX07: if you have trouble deciding if this is a Baby Aston Martin or rebodied MX-5, you should know is a little bit of both.

The AMX07 was awarded the Dare To Be Different trophy at its first proper show - the Gold Coast Autosalon, on June 3-4. Even up against the custom-painted, chrome-heavy, ultra-worked Autosalon regulars, the Aston look-alike MX-5 looked, well, different.

The AMX07 re-body kit can transform a standard, inexpensive 1989-1997 Mazda MX-5 Miata into a stunning, sophisticated masterpiece at a fraction of the price.

Misha Lebedev, the designer of the car, was “inspired” by Aston Martins when it came to designing the AMX07, he says, simply because he'd seen the Vanquish in the James Bond movie, Die Another Day. And because, “... they're such beautiful cars”.

The panels are fibreglass, the nose and rear sections pretty much bolt straight on, while the rear quarter panels are expoxy-, um, bonded. Price of the basic kit is $9995, and buyers supply their own MX-5, wheels and tyres.

Lebedev's Custom Automotive Restyling can arrange painting, re-upholstery, even supercharging if the buyer's keen. He hopes to keep prices for a fully turn-key car between $40,000-$50,000, depending on the buyer's requested features and budget.
