Mazda will launch a new RX-7 in 2012. The car is a must considering the Japanese market will be full of high performance cars in the near future and Mazda really needs one if it want to survive on the market.

The 2012 RX-7 (FE model perhaps) will be powered by the all-new 16X rotary engine; an evolution of the award-winning Renesis 13B found in the RX-8. Armed with a revised eccentric shaft producing more low-end torque—the blatant absence of which has been a common complaint about the RX-8 —and likely some form of forced induction, it’s sure to insert a dose of bees up the collective bonnets of the competition.

Add to that the usual bevy of make-believe insider information such as a curb weight under 1500kg, a usable 2+2 seating setup, and a price tag under US$30k!

I can’t believe in this day and age we still talk about the RX-8 like it’s a Fast and Furious drag car. Keep the rpms up from the start and it will hold its own. If you know how to drive one on a mountain pass or backroad there are few that can keep up. The new RX looks awesome. I am looking to get on the list for a new one!

i had an RX-8 w/ a bunch of crap on it and while it sounded mean as hell, it confused other drivers as to why it sounded like a formula one car accelerating next to them, yet I wasn’t moving any faster. RX-8 is the little engine that couldn’t.. pass a family of four in a G35 Sedan on the highway.

I seriously dont like the new Rx-7. I prefer the older one. But it is about time to launch another rx-7

True, the older rotaries delivered up to 750hp with the conversion kits and if it does go for 30k, that will be a steal.
I don’t know how much the standard engine will deliver but Mazda should come up with a limited edition factory tuned version that will haul this car into supercar status with the cars delivering at least 450hp. What with the RXs handling and all, this will get some positive feedbacks from critics. I don’t see it happening but it would be nice.

not to mention what they did with the ms3 engine going from around 150 hp stock to 263hp and 280lbs of torque... if they use the same engineering on the new rx-7 turbo it should be 400+hp easy

AK47  (233) posted on 05.15.2008

well i would actually expect a turbo to add more hp than 50 or so to a rotary... the old rx-7 engine with no turbo didn’t even have the hp of the current rx-8 and a rotary benefits more from a turbo than your normal engine... i wouldn’t be surprised if a turbo version was closer 400hp than 300 but then again i guess it depends on the factory turbo they use.

yeah but with a turbo like they said output should be around 310 -330 hp. unlikely they will venture further than that

AK47  (233) posted on 05.15.2008

given the previous output of the 1.3 liter renesis this one should have right around 285hp in the 1.6 liter. thats impressive

NICE! About time they bought the RX legend back.
