As Mazda continues to push its brand upmarket, the 2022 CX-30 gets a number of minor updates. The biggest highlight of this model year's update is the addition of standard all-wheel drive (AWD) across all variants along with a new Carbon Edition variant.

With the addition of AWD across the board, prices have unsurprisingly gone up, though depending on the variant, you actually save a certain amount of cash. For instance, the base CX-30 2.5 S now starts at $22,200, which is merely a $150 increase over last year's model. However, since AWD used to be a $1,400 option, you actually save $1,250 in the process.

At this point, Mazda's crossover SUV lineup for the 2022 model year, which also includes the CX-9 and the facelifted CX-5, is now entirely fitted with AWD. This move just basically took out what Subarus are known for, which is their standard AWD drivetrains.

The other highlight for this year is the addition of a new Carbon Edition variant. This basically leaves the MX-5 as the only other Mazda to not get the Carbon Edition treatment. Unsurprisingly, the CX-30 2.5 S Carbon Edition only comes in Polymetal Gray, along with gloss black mirrors and black 18-inch wheels.

Additionally, just like every other Carbon Edition model, the interior is wrapped in red leather seats along with the equipment from the CX-30 2.5 S Preferred. As such, expect an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, sunroof, dual-zone climate control, 7-inch digital gauges, and the 8.8-inch Mazda Connect infotainment system.

As for new features across the lineup, there isn't much to talk about across the lineup. The CX-30 2.5 S Select now comes with aluminum roof rails, while Mazda's new Platinum Quartz Metallic is now offered on the Select, Preferred, Premium, and all Turbo trim levels.

Engine and transmission options are still unchanged for the 2022 model year. This means that the 2.5 S variants come with a naturally-aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the 2.5 Turbo models come with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine that produces 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet on regular gasoline or 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet with premium fuel.
