MBtech Reporter Pick-Up Concept
Out of the spotlight of the upcoming Paris Motor Show, another vehicle expo happened in Hanover, and one of the featured vehicles making an appearance was the MBtech Reporter pick-up concept. We can’t say that we haven’t imagined futuristic pick-ups taking a departure from their current aesthetic set-up, but this one definitely takes it to an entirely different level. As far as we can tell, it looks like a fish.
The Reporter – kind of sounds more like a wrestler’s alias, doesn’t it? – is powered by an independent 1.2-liter 4-cylinder natural gas combustion engine that also includes a 70kW electric motor that powers the concept pick-ups rear axle with a gas turbocharger powering the front wheels. The Reporter’s powerplant serves the role of being a range and performance extender that allows the pick-up to produce a top speed of 80 mph.
The Reporter also features a “Solar Top” that generates enough energy – 266 Watts – to power a few of the electrical components of the vehicle, the Reporter pick-up concept is being classified as a combination of a plug-in and full-hybrid vehicle – thanks in large part to the DualX E-Drive drive solution - that also comes with an all-wheel drive system. MBtech likewise installed three driving modes in the pick-up – eco, 4range, and 4dynamic – to allow the driver to choose the most suitable setting for whatever driving condition he finds himself in.
