One thing you can definitely say about Shmee150 is that the guy doesn’t stay in one place for long. I suspect he may have secretly perfected teleportation technology, but that’s a story for another day. Today we find the affable Brit at the McLaren Technology Center, where he’s getting an up-close look at McLaren’s->ke284 new entry-level supercar,->ke177 the 570S.->ke4924

Watching the video,->ke278 it’s immediately apparent how few of the 570S’s exterior details come through in pictures. It’s a car you need to see in three dimensions to appreciate. The painted strip of bodywork on the door above the side air intake is for the most part detached from the door panel and also houses a hidden door handle. The two symmetrical creases on the hood are all but invisible in pictures but add a bit of dynamism to an otherwise flat hood. Reminiscent of the ones on the Ferrari 599 GTB,->ke395 the C-pillars are actually flying buttresses that channel air towards the rear lip spoiler. In short, there are plenty of details here you may have previously overlooked.

The 570S should be an interesting car to watch. Along with the 540C->ke5120 (which won’t be available in the U.S.) it’s the first car in McLaren’s sports series,->ke4981 and with a price tag of $184,900, it undercuts the front-engine Ferrari California T by over $10,000. It’s arguably the more desirable car, too. Its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 uses the same basic engine architecture as the 650S->ke4801 and P1.->ke4608 It produces 562 horsepower at 7,400 rpm and 443 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm. The 570S does without the active aerodynamics and sophisticated adaptive suspension of its more expensive siblings, but at just 2,895 pounds, it should extremely quick.

While we wait to find out just how quick it is, check out the details with Shmee and read our full review of the 570S here.
