McLaren Electronic Systems partner with Microsoft.

McLaren Electronic Systems part of the Mclaren organisation of which Vodafone Mercedes McLaren the Formula One team who have managed to persuade the Formula One World Champion Fernando Alonso to join then, have just announced that they have won the contract along with software giant Microsoft to supply the FIA the Formula One governing body, with the standardised engine control units (ECU) which are to be supplied to all of the teams competing in the 2007 Formula One World Championship.

Until recently the fact that McLaren Electronic Systems (MES) had even been involved with Microsoft on the bidding for the tender had been kept a solid secret, the tender was entered under the name of Microsoft MES, so nobody actually picked up on who was behind the tender application.

McLaren Electronic Systems are based at the Mclaren Technology Centre, in Woking, which is where Vodafone Mercedes McLaren are also based from, the centre is a recently built hi tech facility where operations such as this one with the FIA is ideal because of the state of the art equipment, staff and facilities.

The Standard Engine Control Unit will be fitted to all cars, and will gather around 1GB of information from the engine during each Grand Prix.
