McLaren’s MSO personalization division is arguably the busiest customization unit in the auto industry these days. Proving that there’s no rest for the weary, the British automaker is now offering a series of special edition McLaren 570S Spiders under the Design Edition lineup. A total of five 570S Spider Design Editions are now available, each coming with a unique look that allows for proper differentiation among the five models. If you’re familiar with the past use of the Design Edition name on the 570S Coupe, this new release is all about giving love to its droptop sibling.

Thanks in large part to the limitless color and trim options that McLaren has at its disposal, the British automaker literally mixes and matches all these colors and materials to create unique versions of its models. We saw how that could work with the 570S Coupe Design Edition. Now, we’re seeing it again with the 570S Spider.

All told, McLaren has come up with five different combinations, each with a special body paint that starts off the proceedings. Customers can choose anywhere from Silica White, Storm Grey, Vermillion Red, Onyx Black, and Vega Blue for the body color of their 570 S Spiders. Each of these body colors is matched to a specific interior theme, chosen specifically by the automaker’s team of designers from the McLaren Designer range. Other elements like the wheel finish, brake caliber color, and finish of the car’s electrically retractable two-piece hardtop are also taken into careful consideration. The goal is to create individual identities for each of the five available 570S Spider Design Edition models.

Take the Black Onyx, for example. Apparently, it’s also called the 570S Spider Designer Edition 4. Regardless of its name, it features the dark-as-midnight color that’s a staple of McLaren’s palette. The retractable hardtop gets the same finish, while the 10-spoke forged allow wheels are dressed in a Stealth finish. But it’s not just about the Black Onyx color, either. Complementing it is McLaren Orange, another color that the automaker is famous for. It’s hard not to miss where the color can be found. The brake calipers are dressed in it, as do parts of the interior, including the seatbelts and parts of the dashboard and Nappa leather seats. Together, the Black Onyx and McLaren Orange treatment are quintessential McLaren.

“There is a virtually limitless number of different personalization opportunities for the McLaren 570S Spider and who better to begin the process than the people who designed it?” Rob Melville, McLaren Automotive Design Director, said. “We have selected key exterior and interior colors and finishes that we believe showcase the 570S Spider in the most desirable way and are offering them as Design Editions that we, as designers, would choose.”

McLaren didn’t release photos of the four other specific editions, but rest assured, they should be as exquisite as the Black Onyx-McLaren Orange example.

Should any of you be interested in getting a McLaren 570S Spider Design Edition, you’ll be happy to know that this is not some kind of ultra-limited edition version of the 570S Spider. You’ll need to buy a 570S Spider, which starts at around £164,750 in the U.K and a little over $250,000 here in the U.S. Opt for a Design Edition package and you’re looking at an extra cost amounting between £8,100 to £10,700, or the equivalent of $11,400 to just a little over $15,000 based on current exchange rates. It’s not known if the Design Edition packages are available in the U.S., but a call to your local McLaren dealer should help you get an answer to that question.
