McLaren Special Operations Creates Special Paint with Family History
Introducing the Muriwai White paint finishby Kirby, on
McLaren’s Special Operations (MSO) division is capable of creating some of the most visually arresting iterations of McLaren models you’ll ever see. Models like the 720 Velocity, 650S Project Kilo, and 720S Zenith Black are all good examples of MSO’s personalization skills. That level of creativity also helps the division create unique colors that have backstories of their own. Recently, MSO decided to tap into the roots Bruce McLaren to create a color that had ties to the life of the company’s founder. And so, the Muriwai White shade was born.
Muriwai White is a special shade of white that carries subtle hints of blue, the latter of which you can only see if you look at the car at certain angles
That specific shade of white served as the inspiration behind the Muriwai White shape that McLaren Special Operations is premiering on a 570S Spider. It’s a special shade of white that carries subtle hints of blue, the latter of which you can only see if you look at the car at certain angles. Amanda McLaren, Bruce’s daughter, was instrumental in deciding the color that would be created in her father’s memory. Apparently, the younger McLaren had the perfect idea in mind: use the same colors that featured on the house she grew up in and attach the name of the estate to it.
The new Muriwai White paint finish isn’t going to be a one-off color
“My mother Patty had been at a dinner party with a palm reader, who told her she’d live in a big white house with blue doors and shutters,” McLaren said in a statement announcing the launch of the special color. “Whether by destiny or design, that is what transpired and Muriwai was a place of pride for Bruce and comfort to Patty years after my father’s premature death in 1970 at the age of 32."
The new Muriwai White paint finish isn’t going to be a one-off color. Once the color premieres on the 570S Spider, customers can ask for the specific paint on any McLaren model through MSO.
