Mercedes-Benz is well known for its one-off creations built in cooperation with various artists around the world. Its recent work includes a total of four one-off art cars built in cooperation with the British skateboard and streetwear brand, Palace.
The four cars are based on the A 45 S, the GT 63, the SL 63 and the G 63 They are inspired by the cosmopolitan flair of London, Los Angeles, New York, and Tokyo - the locations of the four Palace flagship stores.
The four art cars were built to mark the sales launch of Palace’s new 23-piece collection, and they all feature motifs that can also be found in the clothes collection. According to Lev Tanju, the founder of Palace Skateboards, "the trousers, hoodies, jackets, T-shirts, vests, as well as beanies and caps are stylistically oriented towards a ’motor mechanic’ look." the same theme was also applied to the four Mercedes art cars.
Which are the four art cars?
Mercedes-AMG A 45 S Palace Edition "Tiger London"
As its name suggests, this special A45 S pays tribute to London. It is finished in a combination of red and blue and features a large head of a white tiger on the hood and a large Palace logo on the doors. The interior will feature the same blue and red color combination on the seats, and, of course, the Palace logo embroidered on the headrests. According to Mercedes, this car "pays homage to the vibrant and diverse custom car scene in the U.K. in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s."
Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Palace Edition "Sunset LA"
The next special art car is based on the SL 63 and pays tribute to Los Angeles. Its paintwork that shimmers between bright yellow and deep red represents the perpetual Californian summer. There is a big Palace logo painted on the hood, and the words "Palace" are emblazoned on the doors.
Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Palace Edition "Neon Fade New York"
Next in line is the GT 63 Palace Edition "Neon Fade New York" - a special art car that pays tribute to - as you probably guessed it - New York. Its color scheme transitions from black to neon yellow and represents the two sides of the megacity on the Hudson River. The interior is also a combination of black and green, with the Palace logo placed on the headrest and the armrest. Just like all the other cars, this one-off GT 63 will get LED door projectors that display the partnership logo on the ground when the door is opened.
Mercedes-AMG G 63 Palace Edition "Space Horse Tokyo"
Finally, the last art car is a little bit more special because it pays tribute to a city from outside the States: Tokyo. The horse galloping through space on the vehicle’s flank pays tribute to the fantasy culture so popular in Japan.
Obviously, you can’t buy any of these four art cars, but you can order Palace’s new 23-piece collection starting March 25, 2022.
