• Mercedes Announces Biturbo V-12 G65 AMG Coming to U.S.

Mercedes-AMG’s latest announcement means there’s one less vehicle American’s have to wish for. The German automaker will now offer the top-dog G65 AMG in the U.S. stating November 2015. That’s right, the twin-turbocharged, V-12 SUV is joining the G-Wagen lineup in the U. S. of A.

You might be asking yourself what’s the big deal. Well, 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque is certainly a big deal in my book. All that power is routed through a seven-speed automatic transmission and the G-Wagen’s 4WD system, complete with three locking differentials.

Believe it or not, but the Geländewagen is pretty competent off the beaten path, despite its low-profile performance tires. Its full-time 4WD system seamlessly directs power front and rear where it needs it, but locking the center differential splits torque 50/50 for the rougher stuff. Locking the front and rear differentials splits torque evenly between the wheels on each axle, effectively making each wheel turn at the same speed. Select the low range gears, and this Billy goat will climb over anything.

But because this is a G-Wagen, 99 percent of owners will never take it off road. That’s less of a travesty thanks to that 6.0-liter V-12’s impeccable power. The trip to 60 mph should take roughly 4.9 seconds while its top speed has been increased by 13 mph, making 143 mph possible.

When the 2016 G65 AMG joins the G550 and G63 AMG here in the States, it will boast a starting price of $217,900 – making it the fourth $200k+ AMG model now offered.
