• Mercedes Launches The S560e Plug-in Hybrid

And, the automaker has begun its reign of electrification

Mercedes is on a roll with electrified cars lately, especially after the launch of the new EQC. While the long-term plan is to have electric cars on the market, the German automaker’s portfolio in the foreseeable future includes hybrids and plug-in hybrids. To cap it off, Mercedes has launched the S560; in Europe for now.

The Mercedes S560e is the plug-in version of the S-Class and will come packed with a 3.0-liter, V-6 engine that produces 367 horses and 369 pound-feet of torque. It is paired to an electric motor that develops 121 horses and a nine-speed automatic transmission system.

That gives the 560e a combined output of 467 ponies and 516 pound-feet of torque.

It is higher than the previous S500 plug-in, which used to produce 436 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.

The Mercedes S560e comes with a 13.5-kWh battery pack that can deliver 31 miles on a full charge.

Charging takes five hours in a regular socket and 1.5 hours when plugged into a new generation Wallbox charger.

As for speed runs, the car can do 0-62 mph in five seconds before topping out at 155 mph. When running on pure electric mode, the S560e can exceed 80 mph. The car gets all the bells and whistles of the long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class.

The car can be ordered in Germany and is priced at €96,065. In simple conversion, the Mercedes S560e will cost $110,000, but that’s because of Germany’s high tax slab. The domestic price of the car will be equivalent to the S450 4Matic sedan which retails from $93,000.
