After the SLS AMG Coupe, the GT3, and the recently launched E-Cell version, Mercedes has announced that they will also bring a roadster version of their latest sports car. The official debut will be made towards the end of this year with sales beginning in early 2011.

As with the coupe, the SLS Roadster will feature the same long bonnet and short tail, but the gullwing doors will be dropped. It will come with a canvas roof that will make it shorter than the coupe. The all electric roof system will include a glass rear screen and will fold neatly under the rear deck.

Under the hood there will be the same engine as in the coupe: a 6.3-liter V8 engine located front-mid that will develop 571 hp and up to 650 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Performances will be similar to the coupe version with a top speed in the 195 mph area and a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.
