Just recently, Mercedes-AMG->ke8 released a teaser video promising an exciting new addition to the lineup. Aside from calling it “something fast,” though, it wasn’t exactly clear what the upcoming model could be. The only thing known is that it would have one killer exhaust note as the video->ke278 showed the car tearing around the Hockenheimring.

Now, Mercedes->ke187 is giving a few extra clues about the new performance model, and it is definitely not another version of the Mercedes-AMG GT.->ke4853 Thanks to some pictures released on Instagram, there are some new clues as to the direction of the mystery AMG model, but at least it’s clear that the car will in fact be some variant of the yet-to-be-released 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe.

This is confirmed by one of the images of the camouflaged car (the rear angle shot) that shows the door mirror mounted on the side of the door, which is what has been seen in recent C-Class Coupe spy shots,->ke166 rather than up near the A-pillar like the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan->ke142 and 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Wagon. And not only is this the new coupe,->ke141 it’s a rather extreme version at that. Just check out those massive fenders that wrap around the wide Continental 255/35ZR19 tires and the wheels that expose the equally large carbon ceramic brakes.

These are attributes more commonly associated with a Black Series car rather than a standard AMG model, but it would be hard to imagine Mercedes launching the high-performance model before any of the other C Coupes.

Why it matters

Mercedes has yet to reveal when the 2016 C-Class Coupe will make its debut, but this new Mercedes-AMG ensures that there will continue to be plenty of excitement for this car.
