Mercedes-Benz just offered up a teaser image of a new concept car slated to drop cover next week at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. So far, Mercedes has been tight-lipped when it comes to offering hints about what the image actually shows. All we know is what we can see: silver curves, a band of glowing red, a three-pointed star and the words “Concept IAA.” IAA is an acronym for Internationale Auto Ausstellung, the Frankfurt Motor Show’s formal German title, but the German-language publication MBpassion suggests it could actually mean “Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile.”

Here’s what we can speculate: The concept will likely preview Mercedes’ upcoming design language, or alternatively, a futuristic technological brainstorm ala the 2015 Mercedes F 015 Luxury in Motion.

Either way, expect more details just before the show gets under way. Press will get early show access between September 15th and 16th, while trade days will be September 17th and 18th. Members of the public are invited to attend between September 19th and September 27th.

Why It Matters

Simply put, the Frankfurt Motor Show is the biggest auto show in the world. This is where the latest and greatest go head-to-head for the greater motoring world’s attention, and you can rest assured every make in attendance will pull out all the stops to get noticed.

Mercedes is no different, and when you consider how MB HQ is just a quick blast down the autobahn from the show fair grounds, you realize just how vital this concept could be.

Details are scarce as of this writing, but it’s entirely reasonable to assume the new concept will be sleek in appearance and technologically innovative. I’m leaning towards something to do with autonomous driving and low-drag electric propulsion, but at this point it could be anything.

Stay tuned for more.
